Traditional Martial ArtsDara Masi

Suigetsu Dojo offers instruction in several arts whose roots and values are founded in the samurai traditions of Japan.

Jujutsu (also sometimes spelled Jujitsu, Juijitsu, or Ju Jitsu) is a Japanese martial art that, like many other martial arts such as karate or taekwondo, includes stances, blocks, strikes, and kicks. What differentiates Jujutsu from other martial arts is the added focus on joint-locking techniques, throws, and ground-fighting skills.

Jujutsu is about self defense, not offense. We work one on one with military, law enforcement and security personnel requiring specific training. Whatever your goals, we will work with you to meet them.

Our primary art is Hakko Densho Ryu Jujutsu, which has its roots in Hakkoryu Jujutsu and Daitoryu Aiki Jujutsu. The art includes joint locks, pressure points, off-balancing of the attacker and throws. The student learns to use the attacker's own force against him, and to use the body's meridians (pressure points) to cause pain without injury. Hakko Densho Ryu Jujutsu also incorporates a healing component, teaching the student Shiatsu to learn to take better care of their own body as well as others.

Using the principles of the martial arts, we strive to create a better person by developing character, confidence, focus, and discipline.

Additionally, we offer study in Iaido- the art of the Japanese Sword, Hojojutsu- the Japanese martial art of tying prisoners with rope, and T'ai Chi Ch'uan- a Chinese internal art that promotes health and well-being through relaxation and slow movement.

Location

Located in Placerville, CA, the dojo is situated at Mountain Moon Ranch in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains. Both private and small class instruction is available. In addition, seminars are held on a regular basis, including the Hakkoryu Martial Arts Federation's West Coast Gasshuku held each year in the spring. Contact us for more information.

Traditional Core Values

This school is the hombu dojo, or main school, of Hakko Densho Ryu Jujutsu. This system of Jujutsu has at its core traditional values and practices. We are dedicated to a committed practice and deep study of this art as well as passing on this knowledge to all who wish to learn.

Focus on the Individual

We believe that every person can be successful in the martial arts. We often hear "my back," "my neck," "I am out of shape" and many other challenges that one might believe will be limiting. We don't believe that! Everyone has individual challenges to overcome, however they do not have to be limitations. No matter what your capabilities are, we will work with you and you will become a great martial artist.
